Parent Network

Supporting St. Sava Academy

The St. Sava Academy Parent Network (SSAPN) is the official parent organization of St. Sava Academy. It brings parents, faculty, staff, trustees, and clergy together to support the academic, social, and spiritual life of the school and to strengthen our community through volunteering, events, and fundraising, all in keeping with the Academy’s strategic plan and Orthodox Christian mission.

The Parent Network works in partnership with school leadership. It does not set school policy or take part in academic, personnel, or disciplinary decisions. Its role is to support the Academy, enrich the student experience, and build a strong school community.

01 / MEMBERSHIP

Membership

Every parent and guardian of a currently enrolled student is automatically a member of the Parent Network, as are the Academy’s faculty, staff, and principal. There are no dues. Each household has one vote at General Membership Meetings.

02 / MEETINGS

Meetings

The Parent Network holds at least four General Membership Meetings each school year, with at least one each semester. All parents are welcome to attend, share feedback, and propose initiatives. Meeting dates are set by the Executive Board at the start of the school year and shared with all families. Meeting summaries are made available to the parent body.

Leadership

The Parent Network is led by an Executive Board elected each spring by the membership.

Officers

Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary/Communications Lead, and Treasurer, each elected annually for a one-year term.

Grade-Level Representatives

One or two parents for each grade level (K–2, 3–5, and 6–8), elected by the parents of that grade level. Grade Reps coordinate grade-level social events, serve as a liaison with grade-level teachers, and keep families in their grade informed about meetings, events, and school functions. Each grade level has one vote on the Executive Board.

Advisory Members

A Teacher Representative appointed by school leadership, a School Liaison from the administration, and a Clergy Liaison. These members attend meetings and offer guidance but do not vote.

Nominations

Nominations are open to all members. A Nominating Committee, formed each year, issues a public call for nominations, including self-nominations, ahead of the spring election. The current officers and Grade Representatives are listed below.

What We Do

The Parent Network’s work centers on five areas: building community through school-wide social and cultural events; coordinating parent volunteers for school events; supporting fundraising approved by school leadership; sharing information with families and listening to general parent feedback; and reinforcing the Academy’s Orthodox identity in everything it does.

With the support of parent volunteers, the Parent Network raised over $30,000 in the [year] school year. All Parent Network funds are held in an account belonging to the Academy and managed by the Parent Network, with a Treasurer’s report presented at every meeting.

Every dollar goes directly toward benefiting the students and the school.
