St. Sava Academy Preschool & Pre-K Snack Week: Healthy Choices for Our Kids
At St. Sava Academy, we believe that healthy habits start early. That’s why, once a year, each preschool and pre-K family is asked to provide snacks for the whole class for one week. This is a wonderful way to contribute to our community while helping our little learners grow strong, focused, and healthy.
Why Healthy Snacks Matter
Children’s developing bodies and minds need real nourishment. While chips, candy, and artificial treats may be tempting, they don’t provide the steady energy our children need. Even more importantly, many packaged snacks contain artificial dyes and additives, which can have harmful effects on children’s health and behavior.
👉 A recent study found that food dyes can negatively impact attention and activity levels in children (read more here). For that reason, we do not support snacks such as Doritos, candy, or any artificially dyed/colored items.
How to Choose the Right Snacks
We recommend keeping things simple, fresh, and natural. To make this easier for families, we’ve created an Amazon Snack List featuring Yuka-approved, healthy, and kid-friendly options. Purchasing from this list not only ensures your child’s classmates enjoy nutritious food, but also supports our school through a small commission.
📲 You can also use an app like Yuka to scan barcodes and instantly check if a snack is free of harmful additives. Every product on our Amazon list has already passed Yuka’s standards.
Easy Snack Guidelines

- Fruits & Vegetables: Always pre-wash and pre-cut/pre-sliced/peeled fruit and veggies before bringing them in (just like in our sample photo). Parents can place sliced/peeled fruit in 1 large container, doen not need to be individually packed for each student. Apple slices, cucumber sticks, berries, and carrot sticks are always hits!
- Whole Foods: Choose minimally processed snacks with natural ingredients.
- No Artificial Colors or Flavors: Stick to natural, dye-free options only.
- Balanced Options: Granola bars, whole grain crackers, fruit cups in natural juice, yogurt pouches, and nut-free trail mix are great choices.
Together, We Build Healthy Habits
By working together, we can set our children up for success—not just in the classroom, but in life. Thank you for making thoughtful, healthy choices for snack week. Your effort makes a big difference!
